OLFSL 2011 Season.
Here is where we will run our private discussion about the upcoming "All Thrills No Frills" olfsl season.
Mauni and I ean a 28 lap test race today against a good nix of drivers, while Three Jump proved to be his usual power house, Mauni gave chase for a while.
I managed a 4th and must say drove a very clean race, no mistakes, no wall hits and my lap times were very consist-ant.
Streaming of these pools will be available and I will provide the links here for any members that want to watch.
The Set mauni provided just before our race proved to be a stable and easy drive, even though he spun it out, the tires cooled around lap 12 BUT I would not go driving r2's they just cannot do 5 laps without banging the walls.
All of our LFS drivers are due to race Sunday and we will try our best to gather points for the season, looks like Izzy and wakey will be in the same pool, so work together to help each other.
REMEMBER if you cannot make the race , use team CP in olfsl to remove yourself.
Good Luck and I'll report back after the races.

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
Great news!
Where's this last minute Mauni set? Is it different from the one he shared the other day?
I'm next to last on the grid for this race.
All due to very littly time to prepare for this event (did my first lap less than 36 hours before the deadline)
Since the race will more than likely be really early in the morning (anywhere from 3-6 am or so) my focus is on finishing.
I've been driving offline, multiple tests of around 10 laps (just can't seem to get enough free uninterrupted time to do all 28 in 1 go) to drive smooth and not burn the tires / crash.
Red Bull will be my friend Monday morning ... let's get some points!
Did I mention I hate RWD cars ? Most of this seasons combos are a nightmare for me !

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
The set is basically the same as in the other thread. I posted a link for the set I used yesterday just to be sure
www.student.oulu.fi/~markusso/FO8_SO5RmauniRace.set
It uses R3s and should have no problem with tyres, although they take some heat before cooling down after lap 12 as Ant said. It was pretty stable. I spun only once . Around lap 20 or so I hugged wall at T1. Wasn't even hard hit, but the car went undrivable and I had to pit for repairs, which dropped me from 3rd to 5th. So better not to get too greedy as I did, it just costs a lot of time.
Grids are out BTW. Izzy, me, Wakey and Ant got in to the same pool

Waiting to see how Rookie did, replay will be up at lfs-league.com by Wednesday.

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
Just finished my Race.
I was in 4th when I finished and Disconnected ... hope the server registered me as finishing
Race was .. fairly boring as I ended in a huge gap after the start mayhem.
Slowly caught up people crashing / DC'ing / pit-stopping ... nearly lost it at the end when the guy in 2nd was driving very slow .. but I managed to keep it steady.
Praying the server has me registered crossing the line
-edit:-
Think I made it, Russ Greeno confirmed it on the shoutbox.
Let's wait and see for the results

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
My race couldn't have been better. Started 6th and got to 4th on lap one behind Izzy. On lap 6 S/F straight Izzy gave me perfect draft and launched me forward like a space rocket . Right in the next corner I was able to pass the guy in 2nd and got 1st place soon after that. I got a little damage to my car in the process, but not enough to keep me making the fastest lap .
The rest of the race I was able to slowly increase gap to others as Izzy was giving hard time to Ascona in the fight for 2nd place.
Sorry for those two kisses I gave to you Izzy, weren't intentional
Well done Rookie, from 2nd last to 4th is very impressive . Your race is also shown on LFSW, you did finish before disconnection

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
Thx again for the set Mauni!
Watched most of the replays (skipped a bit here and there).
I'm glad I managed to keep it in 1 piece.
Next combo seems to be a bit more my style.
I'll get into doing laps sooner so I'm more prepared.
Nice race all SCCC's, we did well.

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
Next race is this weekend.
I'm busy Sunday and Monday so this race will be in the middle of many things ... going to need lots of Red Bull to survive Monday.
Need to get some laps in with race setup today and tomorrow.
See you all on race day.

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
I think I can only race if it's a my time evening race . Because of real life, the race should start after 18:00 GMT or else I won't make it for sure. I hope to make it, with some luck I would be starting behind others along with Izzy in pool 2.
If I do start from the back of the pack, I'll make an early pit stop. Not sure if it's possible on lap one, depends on the S/F line of the FE3, rules say that you can make a pit stop on first lap only if your pit box is after S/F line . Anyway, that should lead to nice gain of positions, when starting from back...

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
Grids are out! They have 24 racers per pool this time... It's going to get crowded at narrow streets of fernbay. Starting from the middle of the pack will be challenging .
Me and Izzy start 13th and 15th in pool 2. The race is the latest, starting at 19:00 GMT, so I can make it . Pool 2 is very close, less than a half a second separating first and last in qualification.
500 servers have been having huge reliability issues lately, let's hope they get the servers up until sunday.

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
Looks like I have too many sets even, can't remember which one is which . It's been one week since I drove that combo... I'll have to sort those out and report back
We did some testing back then, and if you take good care of the tyres, i.e. don't pull he car out of corners with throttle, covering the race distance with R3/R2 combo shouldn't be a problem.

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
Okay here we go
These setups are all variants of the very good set Ant sent to me.
This is my qualy set. It should be able to do the whole race also. Tyres start to cool down after about 10 laps.
http://www.student.oulu.fi/~markusso/LFS/XFR_FE3mauniAA!!!.set
Little variant of that one, very similar.
http://www.student.oulu.fi/~markusso/LFS/XFR_FE3mauniTesti.set
A race setup Ant did. This was more conservative on tyres, but little slower without pushing hard, which then again led to hot tyres

Great dedication Rookie . I probably would pass the races, if I had to wake up at the middle of the night TBH

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
I made some testing today and this set should be a okay for the race (just one minor adjustment in suspension over the last one, don't know if it matters at all ):
http://www.student.oulu.fi/~markusso/LFS/XFR_FE3mauniTesti2.set
Bad news is that I drove about 15 lap stint with race fuel and tyres never cooled down . Also rear right was getting very hot too, causing car to slide a bit in left handers . But overall it should be good, just don't let the tyre temps to rise much over 120... Would be interesting to test R3 at the back as the rear end traction doesn't seem to matter too much with this car.
More bad news . I did a race with HR V.Kazantzas, who starts right behind me and Izzy. He was running with R4/R2 and had no tyre problems whatsoever... He also did 1:23:40, don't know how heavy he was.

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
Haha great news Mauni!
I did some testing and decided to stick with my qualy setup running R3/R2 for the race.
Did a few shorter stints with full race load and found a stable race pace without burning the tires.
We'll see how I go, I expect a hard race cause I'm going to be very tired.
Seeing how the AI cars had trouble in T1 I'm gonna back off really early and try to stay clear from all the mayhem in the first lap.
Overtaking seems to be tricky (altho AI cars just turn into you)... gonna be a fun race.
Pit-stop will be stop and go ... unless I have damage or tire issues, starting with full race fuel.

Re: OLFSL 2011 Season.
Just finished the pool 3 race, Wakey (as always) had a strong race with a 4th place finish. I spun on lap 1 and just could not get into the groove after that. Really bad driving on my part today, I will try harder next race.
We still collected points and hopefully we're doing good, hard to tell as it's only race 2.
Be well and have a great week.
