Hallo from South Africa ;-)
Hi guys!
Just a short intro to say hi:
Joined LFS in December 2010 when I bought S2 (played demo for 2 hours when I fell in love with the solid physics) and a Genius Twinwheel for Christmas for myself. Started driving actively in Jan or Feb this year, mostly Oval cause I didn't have to worry about the braking, gearshifting and steering thing at the same time ;-), but also got yelled at for my noobness on some other servers like cargames. Felt limited by oval racing, joined OLFSL to learn to drive properly - always challenged by all the new combo's, had some nice duels with Rookie41, met some of the other SCCC's Ant, Izzy and Mauni, some guys that always stand out for their professionalism. willingness to help and friendliness. Recently upgraded to a G27, so now I can't blame my driving on my hardware.
Work for myself so you may find me at weird hours on LFS, was an electronic engineer/lecturer, started a scuba diving business in the 90's, two years ago branched out to work on Volkswagens (mostly Jettas/Boras) and Audi's as at 45 I am getting a bit old to spend too many hours instructing noob divers under Cape Town's wonderful oceans. No, I've never been eaten by a shark.
You can find me on some of my favourite servers (FM) Oval Junkies (where Fras taught me driving by having me kill him many times on the track), AMG Motorsports, (FM) Fox Junkies and the OLFSL combo's. I am not the fastest driver, believe in the Clean Driving Rules, and love the challenge of always trying to improve, my stats you'll find on LSFW.
Internet services from here are not always the greatest (260ms ping times are considered to be awesome in online gaming ;-), but by creative switching between my 3 ISP's, I cope with it.
What else... married for 10 years, LFS drives my wife crazy, but nowadays at least she knows where to find me sitting with my headphones in front of a steering wheel in my hideaway/office in the back garden..
Oops, intro is no longer short. Have a great day!

Re: Hallo from South Africa ;-)
Welcome,
nice introduction
Diving in South Africa must be really exciting.
The advantage with SA with Europe is there is not a lot of Jetlag.
ISP is another problem apparently.
Here u will find LFS and Iracing driver with good spirit.
Aant, Mauni and Izzi are active in LFS, Colt and me are now focused on Iracing (huge sim )
This is more a friendly team than an absolute competitive team.

Hi Gerrit!
Nice to see you on our forums. Very good "short" intro
We cabbies are more or less active chaps in racing simulations as lake already mentioned. Real life goes always first, but when we have time, you'll find us on racing tracks.
Looks like you might start next to me in the next OLFSL event . Good luck for the race!
Best regards,
Mauni

Hi Gerrit,
Very nice intro. Good Luck with mauni in this next OLFSL race, he is a careful and considerate driver which always makes the driving more fun and you don't have to worry about the guy taking you out.
Noticed you have improved greatly this season and have always enjoyed racing against you.
Take care and i will be in touch.

Re: Hallo from South Africa ;-)
We are now in a voting period.
2 days without sleeping talking about Jetta.
We must get a decision.
Pressure....

Re: Hallo from South Africa ;-)
Thank you for the warm welcome, Ant, Mauni, Lake
But shouldn't I be the one having sleepless nights? ;-)

Hello and welcome around here.
I just have one question, why jetta /bora (FWD evil wakes up inside me) as there are so many better cars ?

Pressure...sry for that, i'm not trying to pressure anyone. I think the gent can make a case for himself.
Ty for putting up the pole in regards to his application. +1, the guy can build a set that most of the top LFS drivers love, his understanding of engineering really works well with figuring out the cars.

Colt, I assume you do not like FWD's? Well, here is a better car I finished and delivered to a client Friday night at 10pm after 5 months' hard work...

It is RWD, guess what powertrain??
Hmmm, btw, I have worse news for you, I prefer Jetta TDI's - in other words FWD Diesels, how bad can I be ;-)

Re: Hallo from South Africa ;-)
I dont have problems with FWD (i drive a peugeot 207) but Mauni doesnt like these.
I would say it has a beetle engine as i recognize some beetle parts here and there, this one looks really wild, good job

Hehe that looks like a beast.
Yes, high powered road cars are my favorite. I find it difficult to find the limits of FWDs or formulas
